Reshaping Nobility: Formation of the new Christian elite in Ottoman Serbia (15th-18th century)

Lecture at the Scientific Forum of the Institute of History

Nedeljko Radosavljević, principal research fellow at the Institute of History in Belgrade and a member of the NOBILITY project team, gave a lecture within the spring cycle of the Scientific Forum of the Institute of History, in which he presented the preliminary results of his research. The title of the lecture was Joanikije III, Patriarch of Peć. The author presented the personality of Patriarch Joanikije III, who belonged to the influential and wealthy Greek Karatza family of Constantinople, which, since the 16th century, provided church magnates, the officials of the Ottoman Porte, and mandated knezes.
